Apollo Micro Systems Secures Major Order from Bharat Dynamics Limited
In a significant boost for India’s defense sector, Apollo Micro Systems has clinched a high-value contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), marking a major milestone in its expansion into advanced defense technologies. The order, valued at Rs 10.90 crore, underscores Apollo Micro Systems’ role as a key player in the country’s defense and aerospace industries.
Pioneering Technology for Advanced Defense Systems
The latest order entails the delivery of a state-of-the-art Software Defined Universal Homing System designed for Heavy Weight Torpedoes. This groundbreaking technology, developed in close collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), represents a significant leap in underwater defense capabilities.
Bharat Dynamics Limited, nominated by DRDO as the official production partner for torpedoes, will integrate this innovative homing system into their Heavy Weight Torpedoes. These torpedoes are set to be deployed in the Strategic Submarine Programme, enhancing the capabilities of India’s naval defense.
“This order is a testament to our commitment to cutting-edge defense technology,” said an Apollo Micro Systems spokesperson. “Our Software Defined Universal Homing System is a next-generation solution with advanced features designed to counter complex underwater threats. It is currently the only qualified system of its kind available.”
Boosting Indigenous Defense Capabilities
The Heavy Weight Torpedoes, part of the Ministry of Defence’s embargo list, aim to promote the use of indigenous systems within the Indian Armed Forces. This move aligns with the government’s strategy to enhance self-reliance in defense technology and reduce dependency on foreign systems.
Apollo Micro Systems is also advancing in other areas of defense technology. The company has successfully developed underwater mines, with technical trials completed and user trials scheduled to begin soon. The company’s new UnitIII facility in Hardware Park, Hyderabad, is on track for commissioning by February 2025, poised to meet the anticipated demand for large-scale production.
New Developments and Strategic Milestones
In addition to the BDL contract, Apollo Micro Systems has been declared L1 for a significant order from the Controllerate of Naval Armament (OF). This project involves the development of a Rocket Guided Bomb for Anti-Submarine Warfare, which will be capable of being fired in salvos from ships.
“This project marks our entry into the comprehensive development and manufacturing of Rocket Guided Bombs, setting the stage for future innovations in weapon systems for air, land, and sea applications,” the company noted. Apollo Micro Systems has a long history of specializing in underwater warfare and this new project further solidifies its contributions to the Indian Armed Forces.
