India’s Veera Mahasamrat: World’s Fastest 15 min Charging EV Bus
In a landmark development for electric mobility, Indian bus manufacturer Veera Vahana has unveiled the world’s fastest-charging electric bus, the “Veera Mahasamrat EV.” This cutting-edge vehicle, developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based Exponent Energy, is capable of achieving a full charge in just 15 minutes. The bus, designed for intercity travel, is equipped with Exponent’s 320 kWh battery pack, making it a pioneer in rapid charging technology.
The 13.5-meter-long Veera Mahasamrat EV is the first intercity electric bus to run on two axles, promising to revolutionize long-distance travel. Exponent Energy’s 1 MW rapid charging technology ensures that the bus can charge rapidly without compromising on battery life. The Veera Mahasamrat EV offers an impressive battery warranty of 600,000 kilometers or 3,000 life cycles, addressing the common concerns of range anxiety and charging downtime.
Veera Vahana and Exponent Energy aim to reduce operational costs by up to 30% compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) buses. The bus’s advanced Battery Management System (BMS) continuously monitors cell health, ensuring optimal performance and safety. Additionally, the charging stations feature an off-board thermal management system, which maintains the battery’s temperature, allowing the bus to operate reliably even in extreme conditions of up to 50 degrees Celsius.
New Electric Route: Bengaluru to Hyderabad
To kickstart the electric revolution in intercity travel, Veera Vahana and Exponent Energy are focusing on electrifying the Bengaluru to Hyderabad route. Four 1 MW charging stations will be established—two at each endpoint and two strategically placed along the highway. This infrastructure will allow bus operators to maintain existing schedules with minimal downtime, mimicking the usual stops made by diesel buses every 300 kilometers for a 15-20 minute break.
This development marks a significant step towards sustainable and efficient transportation in India, setting a new standard for electric buses globally.
